When dropping off compost my truck wouldn't restart. With all of the staff working during a weekday they weren't allowed to help me because of liability. It's ridiculous that people won't help others because they're afraid of getting involved and getting sued.

Wouldn't take my recycling because of a plastic recyclable toy, I told him I would remove it and he drove off. Ran him down and he refused to give me his name.

1. Learn to follow the rules. They exist for reasons. If you're mad about them, talk to the Landfill director and they'll be happy to explain why you're being inconvenienced.
2. It's a municipal landfill. It serves an entire county, is highly regulated, and does not exist for your personal convenience. Gain some perspective and read the website before you go so that you know how it works.
3. I've visited many times and the only time someone's been rude has been when a woman there to pick up compost started guard-dogging the entire mountain of compost, like it was her personal preserve, till her husband or whoever could drive his massive truck up to it and they could get theirs. I'm sure staff will become irritable if you're rude or insist that you should get personal exemptions or want a personal tutorial while they"re busy, and so would you in their shoes. Again, read the rules before you go.
4. The landfill will close for safety reasons when it's windy. Yes, I'm sure you were inconvenienced. The safety of the people who work there also matters, and they and OSHA probably know more than you do about what constitutes a hazard at the landfill.

We have one of two composting facilities in the state and have been good at getting grants to expand and care for our landfill, recycling, and composting so that we're doing it responsibly and affordably. Much appreciation for the Solid Waste and Landfill people.

I've been using Republic Services for the past year. Their customer service has been outstanding. My service representative is very responsive and proactive. Trash and recycling are always picked up on the right day unless there are weather issues. The cost is well worth the service and not having to worry about this aspect of my apartments.

The system makes sense only if you've already been there.
Signage is horrible.
Directions are horrible.
The hours are weird.
People at the window are rude and impatient.

I looked up the landfill to check out the hours, and I was apprehensive after noticing the reviews.

The dude there at the scale was chill and friendly, and I was able to drive my car right up to the dumpsters and unload my trash. I did not have to drive into the landfill.

The lady working the desk was beyond rude. She immediately made us feel stupid for even being there, on top of scolding us for her accidental charge of the wrong account. Clearly the landfill needs a turn around with their employees because the attitudes of the current workers are absolutely not okay. Can’t even call and complain because the only ones working are the ones complaints are being made about. Do better. IC Landfill.
